Lunar Authority

Lunar Authority is the rarest decision-making mechanism in Human Design, and it belongs exclusively to the Reflector — roughly one percent of the population. Instead of a body signal that answers in seconds or hours, Reflectors are designed to let the moon do the work. A full lunar cycle of about 28.3 days becomes the container for any significant choice. As the moon transits all 64 gates, it lights up every part of the chart in turn, giving the Reflector a complete, ever-shifting perspective before they commit. This is the slowest, most deliberate rhythm in the whole system.

Where It Comes From

Lunar Authority shows up in a chart that has zero definition — every one of the nine centers is open. With no consistent inner motor, no fixed awareness stream, and no permanent identity core, there is nothing inside the body that can reliably say "yes" or "no" the way a defined Sacral or Solar Plexus can. The Reflector is wide open to the world, which is why their authority has to come from outside the body's fixed wiring. The moon is the one celestial body that touches every gate in a predictable, ~28-day arc. For a chart with all centers undefined, this rhythm becomes the only dependable reference point. Every other authority lives in the body. Lunar Authority lives in time.

How It Feels

The experience is nothing like a gut reaction or a gut-level "no." It feels more like watching a landscape shift as weather moves across it. One day a choice looks obvious and exciting. Three days later, with the moon now transiting a different gate in a different open center, the same choice feels heavy, or boring, or suddenly irrelevant. A week after that it feels sharp and useful again. None of these moments is wrong — they are all real data. The practice is to not trust any single snapshot, no matter how bright it burns. Reflectors often describe a slow dawning: partway through the cycle, something quietly settles. Instead of a single clear signal, there is a growing sense that the decision has already made itself. By the end of the 28 days, the answer is not something you reach for — it is something you notice has been there for a while.

The Decision Process

For the big stuff — a job offer, a move, a relationship commitment, a major purchase — the process is simply: start the clock. Note the decision, note the moon's current position, and then live the next month as an experiment. Talk the decision through with different trusted people in different moods and different environments, because Reflectors also sample their surroundings deeply. Let the moon move through all 64 gates while you pay attention to how the decision lands on different days. Don't argue with the time frame and don't try to compress it. The strategy is not passive waiting — it is active sampling across a full cycle. At day 28 you check in: does the body still orient toward this choice, or has the novelty worn off? Smaller, everyday decisions don't need the full cycle, but anything that will reshape your life does.

Common Mistakes

The classic error is answering big questions in the moment, usually because someone else is impatient or because a wave of conviction feels too strong to ignore. A Reflector who commits on day two of a cycle is committing to the flavor of that single gate, not to the whole picture — and the flavor always changes. Another frequent trap is letting other people's urgency set the pace. "I need an answer by Friday" will produce a decision, but rarely the right one. The not-self signature that follows these shortcuts is disappointment: the quiet slump of realizing that what looked certain on Tuesday turned out to be borrowed enthusiasm from whoever you were sitting next to.

Living It Daily

Track the moon. A simple phase app on your phone is enough — knowing roughly where you are in the cycle turns an abstract 28-day window into something concrete. For any decision worth more than a week of consequences, write it down with the date, then check back in at the next new or full moon. Protect your right to say "I'll know in a few weeks" without apologizing. Surround yourself with people and places that feel clean, because your openness soaks up whatever environment you sit in. Lived well, this slow rhythm produces the Reflector's signature: genuine surprise at how right life keeps turning out.
