How we calculate
Last updated: 2026-10-02
Your chart comes from astronomy and the fixed rules of the Human Design System. There is no chance involved and no artificial intelligence: the same birth data always gives the same chart.
From your details to a moment in time
For your place of birth we look up its coordinates and time zone. With them we convert your birth time to Universal Time, including daylight saving time and historical changes. If several places share a name, you can choose the right one below the result.
Two moments: Personality and Design
A chart has two sides. The Personality shows where the celestial bodies stood at the moment of your birth. The Design shows their positions about three months earlier, more precisely when the Sun stood 88 degrees before its position at your birth. That is how the Human Design System defines it.
From the sky to your chart
For both moments we calculate the positions of the Sun, Earth, Moon, the lunar nodes and the planets, based on established astronomical models. Each position belongs to one of the 64 gates and one of its six lines.
Everything else follows by fixed rules: which channels and centers are defined, and with that your type, strategy, inner authority, profile, definition and incarnation cross.
If you don't know your birth time
Then we check the whole day of your birth and show you what stays the same all day and what depends on the time. We don't show a bodygraph then, because it would present values as certain that are not.
How we check that it is right
We compare our results with published charts of well-known people. Automated tests check these comparisons and the rules before we publish a change.
Why other calculators sometimes show something different
- Birth time: a few minutes can change a line or gate, especially for the Moon. The more exact the time, the more reliable the chart.
- Place and time zone: another place with the same name or another time zone gives another moment.
- Lunar node: we use the true lunar node, the usual standard. Some calculators use the mean node; then the node often falls into another line and sometimes into another gate.
For births before 1970 and in some regions, historical time zone data is not always certain. Below the result you can see which time zone we used.
